With Alfarería del engaño (Pottery of Delusion), we set out to explore whether it is possible to make ceramics using clay extracted from the urban soils of Alicante. To do so, we created a series of tools that helped us collect, sift, wash, decant, dry, and fire the clay.
To collect, to wash, to fire... these verbs carried us back to the beginnings of women’s history, when in agricultural societies, as our beloved Ursula K. Le Guin said, two hands brought together formed a bowl: a bowl as a container, as a carrying pouch, as hands full of water, as hands covered in earth, a ceramic vessel.
