‘diluted landscape’

Five hundred litres of water are extracted from the exact discharge point of the outfall of the Güímar industrial estate, generating an immersive experience inside the museum wall. A closed circuit made up of tanks, pipes, pumps and nebulisers transforms the water into steam. A dense, salty fog exposes the visitor’s skin to direct contact with the island’s material flows.

The liquid waste ends up in the sea through a network of outfalls hidden in its depths. In the Güímar industrial estate, a pipe one metre in diameter and three hundred metres long expels the waste to a place where humans are no longer responsible. The heavy metals accumulated on its coastline present us with an uncertainty about the alterations to the sea’s ecosystems.

Now we vape rejects the segregation between ‘out there’, in the ocean, and ‘in here’, in the body.

Water, understood as a fossil record of the island’s exploitation, becomes a vehicle for establishing relationships between the toxic, the natural and the human.
