The earth’s crust is being eroded in a continuous artificial process. Mineral reserves, records of processes that occurred billions of years ago, resist in a hidden layer threatened by a violent technological deployment that brings to the surface new toxic and viscous landscapes. New materialities interfere with our bodies, transform ecosystems and push us towards an imminent collapse that urges us to rethink the role of humans.

What are the consequences of the new productive landscapes? What are the mountains turning into? Will we run out of soil? Will we go on holiday to toxic beaches? Can we dance together in the mud?

Are we in the mud? An open question and a speculative project that investigates the main residue of the ornamental stone industry to activate a material practice. It seeks to construct alternative scenarios and, from the experience, to collectively reflect on the protocols of the body-extractivism relationship in the continuous demand for unprocessed materials.

This installation has taken place twice: first in Alicante, as part of the Shared Fictions cultural programme organised by La Cuarta Piel at the Cigarreras Cultural Centre, and then it travelled to Madrid, commissioned by Fernando Gandasegui as part of the DOMINGO Festival at La Casa Encendida.
